Greenwood SC Real Estate, Lake Greenwood, Timmerman and Nicho

Greenwood South Carolina

Our Area

Greenwood, SC is a bustling industrial and cultural center nestled in the beautiful green hills of the Old Ninety Six Historical District. Known for its gardens and scenic lake vistas, Greenwood is one of South Carolina's most charming cities. Lake Greenwood is a major attraction for visitors and residents. With more than 11,400 acres of water and a 200 mile shoreline, stocked with 280,000 striped bass each year, the lake is a fishing enthusiast's paradise. On its shores, the State Park has 125 campsites and is open year round.

Golf is another favorite year round pastime here with seven championship courses to play.

Families of all ages enjoy the benefits of Greenwood's educational infrastructure. Lander University, established in 1872 as a woman's college, is today a four-year co-educational institution offering the baccalaureate degree in 40 courses of study and a master's program in elementary education. Lander's Monsanto Art Gallery's Southeastern exhibitions attract visitors from across the US. Piedmont Technical College, which offers two-year technical degrees, focuses studies in the health, engineering, industrial, business, and public service fields.

Greenwood's long, fascinating history, ideal climate, exquisite gardens and golf courses, recreational lake and strong community spirit make this charming town worth considering as a great place to raise a family, to build a business, to work, to retire.

Brusters

Bruce Reed, the founder of Bruster's is a real ice cream guy. You can see it in his eyes and sometimes you can see it in his beard too! If you think real hard about it, you might be able to figure out where the name came from.

Anyway, back in 1989, Bruce opened his first store in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania. People came from miles around to enjoy the tasty treats that Bruce made right in the shop.

Now there are Bruster's Real Ice Cream shops all over the country. And every one of them has two things in common. They are all owned by people, like Bruce, who are truly passionate about ice cream. And they all make their fresh ice creams, cakes, pies, and even waffle cones right inside their stores.

If you read this far in the About Us section of the site, you're probably passionate about ice cream too, or you have a lot of time on your hands. Either way, treat yourself.

Dixie Drive In

Counter seats only, with a separate side for carryout orders. Great hamburgers and onion rings. Clean, fast, friendly. Dr. Benjamin E. Mays House Museum
(under construction)
Benjamin Elijah Mays was born in the town of Epworth, southeast of Greenwood, in August 1894.  Mays served as president of Morehouse College from 1940 to 1967.  Perhaps the most significant relationship that he developed during his time at Morehouse was with Martin Luther King.   Previously listed as one of South Carolina Eleven Most Endangered Properties, Mays birthplace has been threatened with collapse because of numerous years of neglect.  In 2002 Palmetto Conservation Foundation negotiated a contract to purchase and move the Mays Birthplace from its current location—ensuring its long term preservation and protection.  The Mays home has been moved to the GLEAMNS campus off of East Cambridge Avenue in Greenwood.

South Carolina Heritage Corridor
The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor extends 240 miles across South Carolina, stretching from the mountains of Oconee County, along the Savannah River, to the port city of Charleston. The Corridor comes directly through Greenwood!  The 14 counties of the corridor offer a cross-section of the state's history, culture, and natural landscapes. The area describes the evolution of upcountry and lowcountry life, from grand plantations and simple farms to mill villages and urban centers, and how their history affected South Carolina as a state and America as a nation.
